The Truth About Social Media | The One Where We Talk Podcast

Photographers and videographers, whether they capture wedding days or not, social media is a key medium that allows you to share your work with others and grow a following based on the work that you do.

While some might look at it as a nuisance to have to keep up with all these accounts, whether it is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok or others, others might thrive with building up their fan base and showcasing their work for the whole world to see.

Many people know however that social media, while it can be a great tool for personal and business endeavors, can also be a time drain and allow you to follow the path of always comparing yourself to someone else.

Those comparisons could be based on if you thought someone had better wedding photos or videos than you, or even something as simple as that one person you kind of knew from high school has a shiny new car and now you wish you had it. Whatever the case and the comparison might be, we have all encountered this experience just as a result of living in the 21st century and having access to smartphones.

On this episode of The One Where We Talk Podcast, Luke and Liz (The Wedding Pirates) explain some of the common issues that can pop up on social media for those in the wedding industry and for wedding photographers and videographers. A few of the topics that are covered in this episode are:

  • How to not let envy for other people's work cloud your own accomplishments

  • Understanding that social media is a necessary tool but not the end all be all

  • How to not rely on social media for continual education and growth
